Summer Camps 2012

The University Museum is offering nine, week-long summer camps
for children grades 1-8 (as of Fall 2012).

Cost: $85 per week to Museum Members at the Family level and above
$95 per week, per participant for non-members

All supplies and snacks are included in the cost.

Natural Science, Art, and the Environment
Students will explore Bailey’s Woods, collect specimens, create a field notebook, collect leaves, and make an art journal about the experience

Session 2
Grade 1- 2 or Grade 3-5
June 18–22, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Chinese Art
Join us for a week-long celebration and exploration of Chinese art. Students will be inspired by our Silk Road exhibit, which features thousands of years of Chinese ceramics. We will make shadow puppets, learn calligraphy, make beautiful paintings, create prints, experiment with clay, and so much more!

June 25–June 29, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
All About Art
Join us for a week-long exploration of various types of art. Students will experiment with painting, printmaking, weaving, hand building with clay, photography, and pastels.

Session 4
Grade 1- 2 or Grade 3-5
July 9–13, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

June 18–22, 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
3-D Transformations
Students will create sculptures inspired by famous works of art in the UM Museum collection and beyond! They will experiment with wire, recycled materials, clay and more!

Session 8
Grades 6-8
July 9–13, 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Watercolor and Acrylic Painting
Students will explore a variety of subject matter while working in the art studio and en plein air (in the open air). They will learn about color mixing, wet and dry brush techniques, shading, and composition while creating original paintings. They will experiment with a variety of techniques on paper and canvas.

Session 9
Grades 6-8
July 23–27, 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Drawing and Illustrating
Students will develop new drawing skills while working from photographs, still life objects, and from their imaginations. Students will explore both wet and dry media as they create a series of original works of art using pen and ink, chalk pastels, oil pastels, pencils, charcoal, and ink.
