Art is Puzzling Scavenger Hunt

Saturday, self-guided activity for children
The Art is Puzzling Scavenger Hunt is inspired by the current Kent Rogowski “Love=Love” exhibit. Use clues to solve a riddle and then add your mark to a collaborative, community art project.

Outdoor Artist Demonstrations

Saturday, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
Tom Lee, sculpture instructor at MCA, and his wife Sheri Reith, newly retired Chair of the Art Department at Ole Miss and printmaking professor will join us for outdoor demonstrations on the lawn of the Walton-Young house. Tom will be transforming logs into wooden sculptures using his chainsaw and wood lathe. Sheri will be creating art pieces using techniques involving rolling, carving and acids.

Mississippi Presenters Networking Roundtable

Documentary Film Screening: Joe’s Violin

Saturday, screenings at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in the Speakers’ Gallery
The award-winning short documentary film, Joe’s Violin, features the development of an improbable friendship between a 91 year-old Holocaust survivor Joe Feingold and a 12 year-old Bronx girl Brianna Perez brought together by a donated musical instrument. Emphasis of the story highlights the power of music lighting the darkest of times as well as the power of a small act making strong impact. POV is television’s longest-running showcase for independent nonfiction films. (30 minute run time)

Yokna Sculpture Trail

The Museum features Zorro, by sculptor Jeffie Brewer, as part of the Yokna Sculpture Trail tour.

All activities are free of charge and the public is invited.

The art in Unwritten Memoir is a survey of work created by Randy Hayes from 2004 to present. In that time, he began to live part-time, then full-time, in Mississippi. His art is also influenced by travel to Turkey and Japan during that same period. The art reflects his visual memory of three very different cultures and environments: Mississippi, Turkey, and Japan.

Recollections refers to a group of photographs and objects which have a specific connection to one another. This series, included in this exhibition, began about twenty years ago but has never been exhibited before. Also on exhibit is an associated series of small paintings of objects.
