From the Friends of the Museum

OCTOBER 2021

Friends of the Museum put on a fundraiser every fall called “Harvest Supper.” This fundraiser was created 10 years ago by the board, chaired by Dorothy Howorth, with the purpose of raising funds to support the University’s Museum and its historic homes, Rowan Oak and The Walton-Young House. These funds are used in the areas of education, collections and acquisitions, and for numerous projects not otherwise funded by the University. This year’s Harvest Supper will be held at Rowan Oak on Thursday, October 21st from 6:30 p.m–10:00 p.m.

Harvest Supper will showcase local chefs serving seasonal food (A&N Catering and Elizabeth Heiskell Catering), local musicians (UM’s Steel Orchestra and the Yalobushwackers featuring Jack Sonni), and regional artists as part of an on-line auction (auction items are currently on display at the University Museum).

Harvest Supper’s revenue comes from Sponsorships (levels ranging from Presenting $10K to Bronze $500) and the Art Auction (featuring 26 artists this year), many of whom will attend the event. Art can be viewed on-line at hs21.org and at the event in a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, photography and ceramics. On-line bidding opens at 8:00a.m. on Monday, October 11 at hs21.org and ends the night of the event at 9:30 p.m. Successful sponsorship years have eliminated individual ticket sales, in fact this year Sponsorships were so popular that the event is sold out. However, a waiting list is available at 662-915-7073.

Harvest Supper is a casual, outdoor dining event where people are encouraged to visit with friends, old and new, and to meet visitors while the Friends showcase what the region has to offer in food, music and art. Most importantly, we hope Harvest Supper 2021 will be considered a “fun” fundraising evening.
