Join the Friends of the Museum for an art-filled day trip to Cleveland, Mississippi.
We will depart via bus from the University Museum on November, 8th at 8:00 a.m.
Return time tentatively between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
COST: $65 per person
This includes travel, admissions, and lunch.

Art is Puzzling Scavenger Hunt
Saturday, self-guided activity for children
The Art is Puzzling Scavenger Hunt is inspired by the current Kent Rogowski “Love=Love” exhibit. Use clues to solve a riddle and then add your mark to a collaborative, community art project.
Outdoor Artist Demonstrations
Saturday, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
Tom Lee, sculpture instructor at MCA, and his wife Sheri Reith, newly retired Chair of the Art Department at Ole Miss and printmaking professor will join us for outdoor demonstrations on the lawn of the Walton-Young house. Tom will be transforming logs into wooden sculptures using his chainsaw and wood lathe. Sheri will be creating art pieces using techniques involving rolling, carving and acids.
Mississippi Presenters Networking Roundtable

Documentary Film Screening: Joe’s Violin
Saturday, screenings at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in the Speakers’ Gallery
The award-winning short documentary film, Joe’s Violin, features the development of an improbable friendship between a 91 year-old Holocaust survivor Joe Feingold and a 12 year-old Bronx girl Brianna Perez brought together by a donated musical instrument. Emphasis of the story highlights the power of music lighting the darkest of times as well as the power of a small act making strong impact. POV is television’s longest-running showcase for independent nonfiction films. (30 minute run time)
Yokna Sculpture Trail
The Museum features Zorro, by sculptor Jeffie Brewer, as part of the Yokna Sculpture Trail tour.
All activities are free of charge and the public is invited.

Harvest Supper provides a quintessential Oxford-Ole Miss experience – a picturesque evening at Faulkner’s Rowan Oak.

The Artist’s Sketch: Biography of Painter Kate Freeman Clark Lecture

Carolyn Brown presents The Artist’s Sketch:
Biography of Painter Kate Freeman Clark.
Book signing and reception to follow lecture.
“In the book I write that the stated intentions of Clark’s will are quite extraordinary: She envisioned building a permanent gallery for her artwork and she hoped that her home, Freeman Place, and its contents, could “fill some useful social or artistic function, such as a museum, library, art gallery or a civic guest house or woman’s club.” She also recognized that her extensive clothing collection, “costumes and apparel of sufficient interest and preservation to illustrate fashions and manners … (could) show the amazing change between 1914 to 1933 minds, modes and manners, etc.” She was concerned about her legacy since she left no direct heirs. In her will, much to the surprise of her home town of Holly Springs, Clark left her paintings stored at a warehouse in New York for over forty years, and money to build an art gallery.” said Brown.
Author of Art in Mississippi, 1720-1980, Patti Carr Black said, “Mississippi’s most nationally admired artist during her lifetime is not widely known today. Kate Freeman Clark of Holly Springs exhibited her work at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, The Corcoran Gallery, The Carnegie Institute, New York School of Art, the Society of American Artists, and other prominent galleries in the Northeast. Cheers for Carolyn J. Brown’s well-written, well-researched, and beautifully illustrated biography.”
This lecture complements the University of Mississippi Museum’s current exhibition: Lasting Impressions: Restoring Kate Freeman Clark.

Bring the whole family to explore the Museum’s newest exhibit of art by Kate Freeman Clark, an impressionist painter from Holly Springs. We will have interactive projects inspired by nouns in art- people (portraits), places (Earth Day inspired landscapes), and things (still lifes). Adaptations for all ages will be available, and we will even have a baby play area for Buie Babies to unwind. All children must be accompanied by a grown-up.
